A four-stroke engine develops an entire thermodynamic cycle divided into two distinct rotations of the crankshaft, as unlike a 2-stroke engine, the piston performs not one but two functions. During a complete thermodynamic cycle, a mass of gas or fossil fuel (gasoline, diesel, methane, LPG, methanol and ethanol mixtures) is subjected to the changes in pressure, temperature and volume necessary for the production of the burst, that is, the release of the energy necessary to imprint the movement, allowing the propulsion of the vehicle.
